Eagle Valley Rescue Society (EVRS) volunteers will have more time to focus on their job thanks to a $10,000 grant in the form of a communications package from JVC Kenwood Canada.

The EVRS was the selected to receive the grant through the Kenwood Cares program. EVRS president Pat Gau says the new equipment will allow digital communications with dispatch, resulting in less time on the phone and more time responding to missions.

“The Eagle Valley Rescue Society is grateful for the opportunity to receive this grant for 2017,” said Gau in a news release. “It is groups like JVC KENWOOD that help us so much in saving lives on our highways.

“As much of our resources revolve around communication and the speed and clarity we receive information, it is paramount that our technology is kept up to date. However, being a volunteer organization, we sometimes find it challenging to keep current with our equipment.”

Submissions for the grant were evaluated based on overall organizational need for communications equipment, established track record of service or potential for success within the community and overall benefit to the community via public safety, education and community service.

“The level of dedication and commitment to the local community by the Eagle Valley Rescue Society is remarkable,” said JVC Kenwood national sales manager Wilf Mulder. “Those who travel through Sicamous on either the Trans-Canada Highway, or Highway 97A, can be confident that should an incident occur, there is a well-trained and capable organization properly equipped and ready to assist at a moment’s notice. We are pleased to award this grant to the Eagle Valley Rescue Society to help them perform their invaluable service.”
