High-risk drivers targeted

Some high risk drivers along the Trans-Canada Highway in Salmon Arm felt a sting to their wallets on Wednesday.

On May 3, the Salmon Arm Detachment and memebers of the Provincial Highway Patrol Unit conducted a traffic blitz for high risk driving offences.

The enhanced traffic enforcement project involved seven officers and focused the use of electronic devices while driving, as well as intersection violations.

Police issued a total of 29 violation tickets over a three-hour period, with 13 being for intersection violations, 12 for high risk offences and four for various other offences.

The Salmon Arm RCMP want to remind drivers that the use of any hand-held electronic device while driving is

prohibited, even a cell phone being used in speaker mode while held in one’s hand is prohibited and carries a

fine of $368.
