Kamloops Mounties arrested a driver on Monday and are recommending firearm charges following a road rage incident.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said a motorist told police he was cut off by another vehicle while driving in the city.

The driver followed the vehicle to a home on the South Shore and saw the other driver go into a house.

“While the complainant was taking a photo of the other vehicle to make a report to police, the suspect driver came out of the residence holding two rifles and allegedly pointing them at the complainant,” Shelkie said.

The complainant fled and reported the incident to police.

RCMP arrested the suspect and seized firearms from the residence. Police are recommending charges of pointing a firearm and possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose.

Shelkie said the 25-year-old suspect was previously known to police.

RCMP advise drivers generally to avoid confrontation on the road.

“If an angry driver yells at you or shares a rude gesture out his or her window, don’t make eye contact or yell back,” police said in an advisory statement.

“Keep your eyes on the road and ignore the angry driver. Fighting and driving angry is dangerous to both of you, as well as the other drivers, and will only cause the situation to escalate.”
