Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo, with Sicamous Mayor Terry Rysz, pauses in his speech celebrating the completion of Sicamous’ Main Street/Highway 97A roundabout to acknowledge a logging truck making use of the new infrastructure during an official grand opening on Monday, Nov. 28. The roundabout was the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s answer to the former and problematic “octopus” intersection, providing a safer option for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The District of Sicamous is working with partners the Splatsin, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District and McElhanney Consulting Services on a concept design for the roundabout’s centrepiece, which Rysz anticipates “everybody in this town will be pleased with.”
