Snow warnings issued for major Interior highways

Road and highway conditions are challenging in many parts of the Southern Interior

Driving through parts of the Southern Interior could prove challenging Thursday.

There is a snowfall warning in effect for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, with total snowfall accumulations of 20 to 25 centimetres anticipated by this evening.

On the Trans-Canada Highway, there is a snowfall warning from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass. Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 20 centimetres are anticipated by late this evening.

There are slushy and slippery sections on Highway 6 from Vernon to Cherryville, and compact snow and slippery conditions from Cherryville to the Monashee Summit.

On Highway 97, there are slushy and slippery sections from Lake Country to Falkland.

For Highway 97A, there are slushy and slippery sections from Vernon to Mara and black ice from Mara to Sicamous. On Thursday, there is bridge maintenance at Grindrod from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The road is reduced to single-lane alternating traffic with up to 20 minutes delay.

There is compact snow and slippery sections on Highway 97B from Enderby to Salmon Arm.

Motorists are being asked to leave extra time, drive slow and expect delays.
