Eleven Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road residents are now permitted to return to their homes as the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has lifted the Evacuation Order on all but two homes. As well, an Evacuation Alert issued last week on seven other area properties has been rescinded.

The Evacuation Order issued on Saturday, May 6, 2017 for 13 properties in the 5900 block of Sunnybrae Canoe Point Road has been partially rescinded.

Eleven properties have been removed from the Evacuation Order area.

The occupants of 5866, 5874, 5882, 5890, 5900, 5922, 5933, 5940, 5941, 5947 and 5948 are now permitted to return to their property.

The Evacuation Ordere will remain in place for two properties, located at 5921 and 5932 Sunnybrae Canoe Point Road.

As well, the Evacuation Alert issued on Thursday, May 11, 2017 for seven properties within the area has also been rescinded.

A geotechnical assessment of the landslide area was conducted on Monday, May 15.

The assessment concluded that the debris flow hazard has now diminished and the Evacuation Order for 11 properties and the Evacuation Alert for seven properties can be removed.

Due to the proximity of the properties (5921 and 5932 Sunnybrae Canoe Point Rd.) to the existing creek channel, the Evacuation Order will remain in place.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure advised that as of 6 p.m. Monday, May 15, Sunnybrae Canoe Point Road opened to two-way traffic.

The road will remain open 24 hours per day with no planned closures at this time. Motorists are advised that there is no stopping permitted within the slide area and to obey all traffic control signage.
