The rain has stopped, at least temporarily, and the sports fields are open.

The City of Salmon Arm reports that the fields are now open except for ball diamond 1 at Blackburn Park, field 3 at the SASCU Sports Fields at Little Mountain and the new soccer field, pitch 2, at Blackburn Park.

Asked about the field conditions Monday morning, Jason Chernoff, supervisor of parks and recreation, replied: “They’re not good at all.”

He said the fields can’t be kept closed indefinitely.

Chernoff noted that standing water has penetrated into the ground but the fields are muddy, “no doubt about it.”

He said crews have managed to get some fertilizer on the fields at Little Mountain and have aerated all the fields.
