Mary Margaret Reiswig passed away suddenly on June 16, 2016 in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, BC at the age of 85 years.
Born in Kelowna, BC on March 2, 1931. She moved from Winfield to Malakwa in 1956, and then moved into the house Harvey built in Sicamous in 1963. Mary lived a full and active life helping the community and anyone in need. She is well remembered for her gift with baking, years of dedication with the Catholic Church, having received her 60 year pin a few years ago from the Catholic Women’s League. In her younger years Mary served years with the Kinettes, and remained active with the Sicamous OAPA.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Katharina Stremel, two brothers, John and Yogi Stremel, and her daughter, Lori Ann Reiswig in 1974.
Mary leaves her loving family, husband of 63 years, Harvey; sons, Randal (Joan) of Kamloops and Neil (Coleen) Reiswig of Sicamous; four grandchildren, Kent (Alaina), Brennan (Jen), Dylan and Monique; 3 precious great grandchildren, Sydney Rose, Nolan Harvey, and Parker Neil; siblings, Katie Schneider, Ray Stremel, Martin Stremel and Helen Curran.
A Prayer service was held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on June 23rd at 4 p.m. with Father George presiding. The Funeral Mass was celebrated from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Friday afternoon, June 24th at 1 p.m. with Father George LaGrange O.M.I. the Celebrant, with family assisting, words of remembrance by Wayne Stremel, Readings by Lois Palm and Donna Schneider, presenting of gifts by Katie Schneider and Helen Curran, with special solo’s by Patty Curran.
Interment followed in her daughter’s grave in Solsqua Cemetery with urn bearers, Randal and Neil Reiswig.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the local food bank in memory of Mary.
