Martial artists test skills in tournament

Over 100 martial artists particiapted in The Shuswap Open Martial Arts tournament held at the SASCU Rec Centre on June 3.

Competitors ranged in ages from three to 60 years all participating against their own age and belt levels.

Martial art teams came from Calgary, Acme, Williams Lake, Golden, Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops and Vancouver to compete in the event.

The competitors train in various martial art backgrounds: karate, tae kwon do, kung fu, and kickboxing. They come together to compete against each other in point sparring, katas, patterns, weapon forms and team forms.

The Shuswap Open is the largest event of its kind held within the interior of BC.
