The crowd was packed right up to the fence in the Lordco parking lot in Salmon Arm on Dec. 15 as the CP Holiday Train rolled on down the tracks to deliver some holiday cheer and special performances from Canadian musicians.

To open the festivities, Chad Murphy, Kelly Prescott and Sierra Noble played some holiday favourites, and one of Prescott’s original tunes about her sister being born on Christmas. Noble also got the crowd dancing to the beat of some fiddle-focused Christmas music towards the end of their set.

After a short break and some holiday well-wishes from Salmon Arm Mayor Alan Harrison, MP Mel Arnold and MLA Greg Kyllo, a cheque for $7,000 was presented to the Salvation Army’s Salmon Arm branch on behalf of CP before the main event began: The Sam Roberts Band.

The Canadian indie-rockers hit the stage to great fanfare from the crowd, many of whom pressed up against the fence to get a closer view of the action. They played a set of Christmas songs mixed in with their own tunes, wishing everyone a happy holiday while they were at it before the Holiday Train rolled off to Notch Hill for its next stop.
