The Hudson Avenue NW parking lot looked more like a carnival site on Saturday with a celebration of Salmar Cinemas' 75th anniversary.

Held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the Salmar Grand Theatre, Salmar Community Association (SCA) volunteers and theatre staff orchestrated a day of free food and games, followed by a movie at 4.

The SCA was formed in 1946 with the goal of constructing an arena in memorial to veterans of the Second World War. To help raise the needed funds, the Salmar Theatre (now the Salmar Classic) was built, and opened in May 1949. The Salmon Arm Memorial Arena opened in 1958.
