Regional snooker players are banking on the luck of the Irish as they come to the Salmon Arm Legion for a tournament following St. Patrick's Day.
The tournament will consist of 16 players being paired up using a blind draw system for the four-day event, which will run from Tuesday, March 18 until Friday, March 21. Finals in both the A and B divisions will take place on the last two days, with champions named at the end.
In a media release, Legion president Lance Ewan said snooker has been gaining popularity at the local branch lately, with members quite often in the winner's circle at monthly events held in Sorrento. That includes Brian Scott, Marty Gobel, Dan McKerracher and Bob Schindler, who is a particular player to watch as he "continually nails a high run of 50 plus points on a weekly basis."
Other top players to watch include Cliff Gauley, John Wrobel, Duster Brown and Todd Kennedy.
"Snooker is a game of strategy and skill and has both offensive and defensive play," Ewan added. "The public is invited to come and enjoy the friendly environment at the local branch and see some incredible shot making."
