The Feb. 4 event moves up to the SASCU Rec Centre for more space, more fun, more food, more silent auction, and more dancing.

This is the Shuswap Trail Alliance’s big push to put the funding in place that supports annual volunteer efforts and greenway trail projects throughout the Shuswap.

Scarecrow is back to shake up the dance floor. The band serves up their impressive musical repertoire and contagious energy to get the trail party hopping. And DJ Patrick Riley glues it all together with his always upbeat spinning of the platters in between sets.

The silent auction features some of the region’s best-loved holiday experiences, including a houseboat package with Waterway, and a variety of hiking, biking, snowshoe, ski and paddling packages to grace the auction tables. Every dollar raised supports the Trail Alliance’s ongoing efforts to weave the Shuswap green and establish the region as a destination trail centre in the province.

This year the Shuswap trail fundraiser takes special aim at supporting the hard work of regional partners, volunteers, and sponsors over the last six years.

“We’re calling this the Year of the Trail Steward, says Trail Alliance chairperson and event organizer, Winston Pain, noting that since 2006 more than 50 kilometres of new trails and greenways have been created throughout the Shuswap.

Monthly volunteer events will be scheduled throughout 2011 to work with regional trail stewardship organizations to maintain and enhance already existing trail systems.

Tickets at $20 are available at Lakeside Insurance and Skookum Cycle and Ski in Salmon Arm, and at AJ’s the Worx in Sicamous. Financial and auction contributions can be made directly through Winston Pain at Lakeside Insurance 250-832-8103 or email winston@lakesideins.bc.ca.
