Veterans in Salmon Arm honoured for their service

Piccadilly Care Centre arranges a Remembrance Day Service to honour four veterans who live there

A Remembrance Day service was held Nov. 7 at the Piccadilly Care Centre, to honour the four WWII veterans who live there. Pictured from left are: Staff Sgt. Scott West of the Salmon Arm RCMP; resident Elmer Schauer who served in the 13th Regiment of Canada – 1941 to 1945; Ralph Owens; Laurie Hudson and Ron Surry. Sitting are: resident John Wadleigh, who served as Master Sergeant in WWII in the 426 Airborne Canadian Thunderbirds from 1941 to 1971; and resident Harry Johnson, who served in WWII for the Queen’s Own Rifles, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and in the 1st Canadian Airborne Regiment as a pilot and para-trooper, from 1941 to 1975. He also served on a peace-keeping tour in Cypress in 1975 and was assistant editor of the military newspaper. Missing from the photo is resident Bill Edwards, who was highly decorated with the Westminster Regiment Armoured Division, 1942 to 1946, and received the Italy Star, the France Star and the German Star as well as a Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp.
