The Salmon Arm Observer is looking to hear more from our community members and is interested in finding out what they love about Salmon Arm and the Shuswap.

We are profiling different residents for our community section, by asking them to answer a list of questions about Salmon Arm and the Shuswap and why they think it is so great.

This week we are profiling Delores Bedford, who lives in Salmon Arm and says her home town is where she would like to stay.

“I moved to SalmonArm when I was four years old. My family and I lived in many places in and around Salmon Arm. I have moved away but always moved back here. My two sons finished school here. Salmon Arm is my home town and here I will stay,” she says.

And what does she think of the Shuswap?

When someone says ‘the Shuswap’ what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

My home, Shuswap lake and friendly people who will always help others when things go wrong.

If you could change or improve one thing about your community what would it be?

I would love to see downtown developed into a destination spot with no cars allowed in the main city block. Lots of local shops set up with tables and seating. A parkade maybe where Ross Street parking is. Make it so the inner core is a place where people want to go. Make it affordable for small shops to open their businesses.

What’s your favourite local company?

I think we have a lot of wonderful businesses in Salmon Arm but I would have to say Askew’s, they have always been community minded.

What are the top three places you would recommend that tourists visit when they are in Salmon Arm?

The waterfront, DeMille’s, and the walk around McGuire Lake.

What do you see for the community in 20 years?

A bypass around town for the trucks, a lot more affordable housing and a place for young people to go and have fun… give them something to do.

We are looking to profile as many community members as possible. If you would like to be profiled or if you would like to nominate someone, please click on this link and fill out the questionnaire.
