Shuswap Storytellers began in February of 2016 and has grown ever since.

The normal attendance is 20 people. It is an opportunity to gather, share and enjoy stories. We also have avid listeners who may never tell a story but add to the gathering with their appreciation.

“Our goal is to recreate the oral tradition of storytelling and to intrigue and engage the audience,” says group rep Estelle Noakes.

Stories may entertain, instruct, heal or just be downright fun.

“They affirm who we are and allow us to experience the similarities between ourselves and others,” says Noakes. “It has been said that there is no one we could not learn to love once we have heard their story.”

The group gathers on the first Tuesday of the month in the community room at Uptown Askew’s at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome whether you are a storyteller or a listener. For information, call 250-546-6186.

“Everyone has a story to tell and we welcome new people at any meeting,” Noakes says.
