Salmon Arm Secondary students will be making beautiful music this month.

Band concerts at both the J.L. Jackson and Sullivan campuses will be both a rehearsal and preview for the Shuswap Music Festival, which takes place from April 12 to 28, and a opportunity for families and friends to hear how much students have improved since September.

First up for SAS, the Jackson Spring Concert takes place at 7 p.m. on March 9, where three groups of students from grade 9 and 10 perform.

“All the groups are playing four pieces, but three are ones they will perform at Shuswap Music Festival in April,” says music teacher Brian Pratt-Johnson, noting the festival takes place soon after students return from spring break. “They’ll have to be ready before spring break and it’s nice we get to do a dry run of festival performance for the parents, etc.”

The Sullivan campus concert to be held at 7 p.m. March 15 in the SAS Theatre, will feature the Grade 11-12 Jazz Band, Senior Jazz Combo, and a violin feature.

Jackson and Sullivan Jazz Combos will also perform.
