We have another feel-good movie coming your way this Saturday in the Quebec-shot Tous Toques (English title: All Stirred Up).
Just released to movie theatres on Sept. 13, the comedy begins with a serendipitous “meeting” at a border crossing between the United States and Monteregie, Quebec.
Sonia is a by-the-book Canada border agent working that crossing – her uncompromising nature has made her the enemy of the farmers in the village. Victor, a Frenchman trying to make a name for himself as a chef in the U.S., comes to cross into Canada, makes a false statement and Sonia confiscates his “contraband.” He is furious, which makes it extra awkward when Sonia has to approach him for a favour on behalf of her daughter Lili-Beth.
Lili-Beth is teased at school and has been rejected by the cheerleading troupe she so wants to join. Despite barely knowing how to cook, Lili-Beth decides that winning the Petits Chef culinary competition will bring her the popularity she craves. This is where Victor comes in – but Sonia must do everything in her power to convince him to help her daughter. Even though it means facing the hostility of the entire village towards Sonia, Victor agrees, seeing it as an opportunity to showcase his know-how and honour his homeland.
As the competition nears, Sonia, Victor, and Lili-Beth bond while sourcing local products and testing recipes on the locals, and the village comes together to support Lili-Beth’s dream.
Tous Toques is a gem of a movie about the unexpected twists that shape our experiences. It’s positive, funny and refreshing. Subtitled, it plays at 5:00 Saturday Sept. 28 at the Salmar Classic.
