The annual win-win opportunity is back, with drivers able to fuel up their vehicles and fuel up a local non-profit at the same time.
Through its annual Fuel Good Day, the Armstrong Regional Cooperative gives 10 cents from every litre of fuel sold at its four gas bar locations to a local charity in each community chose through an application process earlier in the year. The initiative includes all grades of gas and diesel fuel sold on that day, which will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 17 this year.
"Once again, Co-op Fuel Good Day is providing the opportunity for us to work together with our members and customers for the benefit of our community," Co-op community relations manager Jason Keis said in a media release. "The Armstrong Regional Cooperative is committed to serving the community and giving back, not just on this day but throughout the year. Fuel Good Day is one of many ways we fuel our communities, whether it's by sharing profits with our members or supporting local organizations that are doing important work right here in our own backyard."
This year's beneficiaries are the Shuswap Area Family Emergency Society (Safe Society) with proceeds from both Salmon Arm locations, the Girl Guides in Armstrong, the North Okanagan Neurolgoical Association (NONA) from both Vernon gas bars, and the Kin Club in Cranbrook.
Throughout Fuel Good Day, the selected non-profits will be on-site giving out information packages and answering questions about their organizations, with draws and giveaways also part of the fun.
Since its inception in 2017, Federated Co-op locations across Western Canada have donated more than $4.2 million to over 800 charitable organizations through Fuel Good Day.
