Community radio to serve the Shuswap

Community Radio is coming to the Shuswap. It will be here even quicker now due to the generous support of the Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union for a community sponsorship grant of $10,000, and a Columbia Shuswap Regional District’s grant in aid of $4,000.

Community Radio is coming to the Shuswap. It will be here even quicker now due to the generous support of the Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union for a community sponsorship grant of $10,000, and a Columbia Shuswap Regional District’s grant in aid of $4,000.

The Voice of the Shuswap Broadcast Society is overjoyed that both of these institutions share the vision and recognize the importance of establishing community radio in the Shuswap.

With these two important pieces of funding in place, we anticipate that we will be on the air in the first half of 2011.

The Voice of the Shuswap Broadcast Society is a Salmon Arm-based non-profit society undertaking the establishment of a community radio station. Community radio is a fantastic and creative medium that can connect communities with region-specific information and dialogue. In reality, community radio is the voice of the people. The Voice of the Shuswap will serve as an incubator for the residents of the Shuswap, and will strive to go beyond the role of a basic information service by including education, expressions of community ideals, music, and an open forum for community dialogue as part of its regular programming.

There are many ways of being involved in the Broadcast Society. Join us as a member, and take pride in knowing that you have helped this initiative get off the ground. You can also support your community radio as a sponsor, Founding sponsors of $500 or more will be recognized on air and on-line as a sign of our appreciation for their support of this burgeoning initiative.

Join us in establishing and defining what the Voice of the Shuswap will be. Your radio will be connecting communities in the Shuswap from our transmitter location.
