Skydivers had 12,500 feet of fun in Salmon Arm this past weekend at the Supernova Boogie.
Skydive Salmon Arm hosted the fun festival, which were coined "boogies" in the groovy '70s, at the local airport from Saturday, Aug. 31 to Monday, Aug. 2, with divers from all over ready to take the plunge.
The group made use of Nomad Air's Skyvan for the event, which has two turbo engines that allows it to reach an altitude of 12,500 feet, whereas their regular planes are limited to 10,000 ft.
"It gives a longer free fall, about a minute long, and can hold up to 20 jumpers," Skydive Salmon Arm owner Rick Scott explained of the special plane used for boogies.
He added that despite the heights reached and jumper acceleration of almost 200 km/h from the plane's 110 km/h, divers don't get that stomach dropping feeling they would if jumping from a stationary starting point.
"It feels like you're riding on a bubble of air, " Scott described. "It's a super addictive sport because it's a super addictive adrenaline high!"
