Salmon Arm RCMP helped rein in a runaway horse on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024.

A runaway horse is back with its owner after being reined in by police.

Salmon Arm RCMP received a report from the owner, who said the horse had been spooked and ran away, at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. Const. Andrew Hodges said police also received multiple updates on the horse from callers in the "neigh-bourhood" around 20th Avenue NE.

"Police located the horse and were able to hold onto it for a short while until it decided to run away again," said Hodges. This led to a low-speed pursuit, with police following the horse as it trotted down 30th Street NE, where Hodges said it was eventually corralled into a parking lot.

"Attending members were able to rein in the situation, and assisted the owner by distracting the horse with some food while it was haltered," said Hodges. "The thankful owner then walked the horse to a nearby friend's residence to wait for their horse trailer."
