Two familiar faces have stepped into managerial roles with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks following the recent departure of former GM Brooks Christensen.
In a recent media release, the Silverbacks' ownership group announced the promotion of Tyler Shattock to the position of general manager who, as the head coach for the past four seasons, they said "has been a cornerstone of the team's success."
As the bench boss of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) team, Shattock has compiled a 107-62-8-6 record and reached a career milestone last season when he achieved his 100th coaching win in a 4-3 victory over the Penticton Vees. Under his direction, the team has consistently performed at a high level, and made the playoffs every season with a solid record of 29--19.
"First I want to thank the ownership group for the continued confidence in me to lead this organization," Shattock said in the release. "I am excited about the opportunity to add GM to my already current role as head coach."
In his new role, Shattock will oversee all hockey operations, including player acquisition, team strategy and long-term planning, with his "deep understanding of the game and proven track record" making him especially qualified to lead the 'Backs.
"To the fans of this amazing town, your support and passion towards our players has truly made the now Rogers Rink one of the toughest places to play in the league," Shattock said. "My staff and I look forward to continue to put a team that entertains and gives this town something to be proud of on the ice as well as in the community. I can't wait for another great year of Silverbacks hockey."
Joining him in managing the team is Josh Dubinsky as the new assistant GM, who has taken on the role in addition to being the assistant coach. Having worked together for the past two years, Shattock said Dubinsky "has earned the opportunity to take on more responsibility," which he's happy to do.
"The organization has become one of the premier destinations in the BCHL for players, staff and management, and I am excited to continue with the team in a more enhanced role," Dubinsky added.
After being shut out in three of four exhibition matches, the Silverbacks will face off in regular season play on Friday, Sept. 20 in an away game against the Cowichan Valley Capitals. The team's home opener will take place on Friday, Oct. 4 when they host the Vernon Vipers with the puck drop at 7 p.m.
