A boil water notice is now in effect for the Sorrento water system.

The notice, issued on Tuesday by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, is in response to high turbidity levels.

All users of the Sorrento water system are warned to: boil water at a rapid boil for at least one minute; add approximately two drops of fresh household bleach per litre of water (approximately nine drops per gallon) to a clean covered container and let stand in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes before use: or use an alternative source of potable water such as bottled water.

These directions apply for water consumption, food preparation (including ice and produce) and dental hygiene.

Issuance of the boil water notice for high turbidity is required by Interior Health.

For further information, call the CSRD utilities department at 1-888-248-2773 or Interior Health at 250-851-7340.

The CSRD will inform users when the boil water notice has been rescinded.
