Christmas trees accepted for free at CSRD landfills

It’s never as much fun taking down your Christmas tree as it is putting it up.

It’s never as much fun taking down your Christmas tree as it is putting it up.

But this year, when you have the sad task of taking your tree to the landfill or transfer station, the CSRD won’t charge you for dropping it off.

“This is the first year we’ve offered free Christmas tree disposal throughout the Regional District,” says waste management co-ordinator Ben Van Nostrand.

“It’s free disposal of live trees from Dec.  27 to Jan. 15 – just make sure all the tinsel and decorations are off,” says Van Nostrand.

The free disposal period for Christmas trees is supported by the CSRD’s Solid Waste Management Plan, the planning document created with the public’s input in 2009.
