UPDATE 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19

RCMP say an accident that snarled Monday morning traffic on Highway 1 near the Salmon River Bridge involved a pilot vehicle that was assisting a wide load on the bridge as they travelled in tandem.

Staff Sgt. Scott West says an oncoming passenger van braked hard, which resulted in that vehicle being rear ended by another vehicle that had been travelling in the same direction.

The driver and passenger of the van suffered minor injuries and were transported to Shuswap Lakes General Hospital

by ambulance for treatment.

Meanwhile, patience required for anyone travelling east on Highway 1 as the road will be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to electrical maintenance three kilometres east of Sicamous.

Further delays will be caused 20 km east of Sicamous as the westbound lane is closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today due to maintenance at Malakwa Bridge .

Delays are also in effect for southbound vehicles on Highway 97B from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for maintenance three kilometres south of Salmon Arm. The road is reduced to single-lane alternating traffic.
