CSRD supports action on timber supply

Interior Lumber Manufacturers’ Association advocates action on timber distribution to maximize financial return.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District board of directors voted to support the Interior Lumber Manufacturers’ Association’s (ILMA) request for the provincial government to take immediate action to encourage the distribution of provincial timber supply in such a way that the right log reaches the right mill for maximum financial return.

A delegation from ILMA which presented to the CSRD board in June, explained that timber that can be used for unique specialized value-added products sometimes fall into the hands of mills that are only capable of turning it into ordinary lumber.

The delegation made a case based on both the financial return and the environmental sustainability of more controlled timber allocation.
