District rescinds boil water advisory

Water quality advisory back in place as turbidity levels remain fair.

The District of Sicamous has rescinded its boil water notice, but a water quality advisory remains in place.

The boil water notice was put into effect on June 13. It was issued after water quality readings exceeded five neophelometric turbidity units (NTU). An NTU reading over five is considered poor, and it is advised all users drink boiled water or a safe alternative. Since July 1 the NTU rating has fluctuated from as low as 2.49 NTU to 3.07.

For turbidity levels between 1 and 5 NTU, it is recommended that tap water be boiled prior to consumption by children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems. Boiled water, or an alternate source, should also be used for such things as washing food, brushing teeth and making ice.

Turbidity levels are influenced by seasonal runoff, flooding and lake turnover.
