A 45-year-old Sicamous man is facing multiple charges after being caught driving while under the influence in an uninsured vehicle without a driver’s licence.
On Jan. 29 at 2:22 a.m., an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle known to be driven by an unlicensed and uninsured resident. Upon investigation, the officer noted the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was taken to the Sicamous RCMP detachment and administered a breathalyzer test, in which he registered well over the legal limit.
The man is facing charges of driving while over .08, driving while impaired, driving with no driver’s licence, driving an uninsured vehicle and for having the wrong licence plate on the vehicle.
• Jan. 30, 8:25 a.m., drug information was received by police.
• Jan. 30, 8:29 p.m., police received a report of hazardous situation in which a broken-down tractor trailer unit was blocking part of travel lane on the Trans-Canada Highway outside of Sicamous.
• Jan. 31,10:42 a.m., a lost trailer plate was turned in to police.
• Jan. 31, 1:12 p.m., the fraudulent use of a cell phone was reported to police. Dubnyk said somebody had activated a cell phone in someone else’s name and racked up bunch of bills.
• Feb. 1, 7:24 a.m., a tractor trailer was reported to police to be speeding and passing on double solid lines.
• Feb. 1, 9:59 a.m., police received a report of a suspicious person standing on the side of the highway waving his hands. Officers found the subject who was only attempting to track down someone to use a cell phone as their vehicle had broken down.
• Feb. 1, 8 p.m., police received a report of motor-vehicle accident involving a deer. The driver was uninjured though the deer was killed on impact.
• Feb. 2, 1:18 a.m.,truck trailers and snowmobiles were reported stolen from the Super 8 Motel. This is the first reported snowmobile theft this year.
• Feb. 2, 10:39 a.m., police received a report of vandalism – three flower pots in front of a local pub were broken the night prior.
• Feb. 2, 3:06 p.m., police received a report of possible impaired driver on Highway 1, having difficulty staying in their lane. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle, and passed the information on to the Revelstoke detachment.
• Feb. 3, 1:23 a.m., police were requested to assist the fire department with a residential fire.
• Feb. 3, 8:33 a.m., Sicamous RCMP were contacted by the Canadian Firearms Centre advising of a local individual whose firearm licence has expired. The individual’s record showed they were still in possession of firearms.
Sicamous RCMP responded to five false alarms in this reporting period.
