Two Sicamous men will be serving time for charges relating to an April 2012 robbery of a marijuana grow operation.
On Jan. 27, Salmon Arm Provincial Court Judge Roy Dickey sentenced Adam James Elford to two years less a day in prison, and Jordan Jay Thomson to 18 months. In addition, they each received a two year probation order and a mandatory lifetime firearms prohibition.
Elford and Thomson were charged under the criminal code for break and enter with intent of committing an indictable offence, unlawful confinement or imprisonment and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The charges stem from an April 18, 2012 incident in Malakwa.
According to Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Dave Dubnyk, the victim had heard his dog barking, alerting him to someone entering his yard.
The victim saw a vehicle drive into his yard and two men get out. One of the men allegedly showed that he had a handgun, exposing the handle to the victim. The suspects then explained they were there because the victim had a marijuana grow operation at his residence. During the incident, the suspects bound the victim’s arms and legs with tape.
“The suspects stole a significant amount of marijuana bud, as well as an amount of cash that had been stored at the house; then the two of them fled with the marijuana and cash,” said Dubnyk.
RCMP plain clothes officers from Kelowna were brought in to assist with the investigation, which resulted in the arrest of Elford and Thomson.
