Vernon RCMP arrested a suspect in a vehicle theft Wednesday after credit cards were used at a local business in Enderby.
On Oct. 3, the Vernon RCMP entered into an investigation where a vehicle, located in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue in Enderby, was broken into overnight and a wallet, containing credit cards and identification, was taken from the vehicle. The theft suspects then allegedly used the stolen credit cards at a local Enderby gas station.
The suspects, a male and a female — both known to police — were identified during the theft and fraud investigation. On Wednesday, Dec. 5, the officers located and arrested the suspect male. The female still remains outstanding.
“Although banking clients know they are often not held liable for fraudulent charges on their account due to theft or unauthorized transactions, it is their responsibility to ensure those cards are protected at all times for security reasons,” said Const. Kelly Brett. “The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP would like to remind vehicle owners to ensure that nothing is left in their vehicles while unoccupied. We often see wallets or purses taken from vehicles where suspects quickly put the stolen debit and credit cards to use, using the tap feature.”
The 28-year-old Enderby male was arrested and released on conditions and a future court date is set for Dec. 18.
