Revelstoke RCMP continue to hunt man wanted in police shooting on Highway 1 Golden, who may also be suspect recent Saskatchewan murder.

People wait to leave Revelstoke via Townley Street while RCMP search for a suspect in a murder and police shooting in Johnson Heights.

A man being hunted by police in Revelstoke following a police shooting near Golden may also be the suspect in a recent murder in Saskatchewan, says RCMP.

“Currently we are deploying our resources to find a suspected murderer,” Revelstoke RCMP Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky told the Review. “There’s a warrant out for his arrest from an incident in Saskatchewan.

“If it is the same person. We are not certain at this time.”

Grabinsky said he did not know the date of the Saskatchewan killing.

Today’s search started when RCMP were conducting a traffic stop about 25 kilometres west of Golden, B.C. There, a police was shot and the suspect took off westbound in another vehicle.

Grabinsky confirmed the vehicle was ditched just east of Revelstoke and the suspect fled.

“There is a vehicle that we have stopped that the subject male most likely came out of and we don’t know where he is anymore,” he said.

Police are currently searching the Johnson Heights neighbourhood, which is located off the Trans-Canada Highway, just east of Revelstoke. They have been in the area with police dogs, helicopter and more.

The man is said to be armed and dangerous.

“The RCMP has deployed as many resources as we can to locate this male, both because of his behaviour in Saskatchewan – there’s warrants for his arrest – as well as because of his behaviour here,” said Grabinsky. “We are currently looking for him with every resource we have.”

People have not been allowed to leave the city heading eastbound, leaving residents of Johnson Heights, as well as many travellers, stuck in Revelstoke.

According to reports, Johnson Heights’ residents were finally being escorted home starting at around 11 p.m.

The police officer that was shot experienced non-life-threatening injuries.
