Salmon Arm firefighters were quick to get a blaze under control at the Downtown Activity Centre.
The fire, located outside in a fenced-off area at the back of the activity centre, was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16.
The Salmon Arm Fire Department responded with two tenders. Firefighters squeezed through the fence at one end to get a hose from one of the trucks to a burning tree stump surrounded by dried grass. In the 33 C heat, firefighters hastily doused the smoking stump and then dug into it with a shovel to make sure the fire was out.
Watching from a distance, a woman and child waved to the firefighters as they drove away from the scene just before 4 p.m.
