In the midst of moving into the new municipal hall, Sicamous council said farewell to its old home last Wednesday.
It was the last time council would hold its committee of the whole meeting at the district office on Riverside Avenue and meet for its regular council meeting at the Seniors Activity Centre on Shuswap Avenue.
Acting mayor Fred Busch called the day a “momentous occasion” and reminisced about times spent in both locations.
Moving forward, the grand opening of the new municipal hall was up for some discussion.
Although Mayor Malcolm MacLeod was not in attendance, Busch said that in talking with him, it appears he would prefer waiting until after summer.
“I know he would like to do it later than sooner because he would like to have everything operational,” said Busch, who suggested sometime in July. “As far as I am concerned, that is way too late. I think that people in Sicamous are probably eager to see what this building looks like.”
The matter will be included on the agenda of the July 6 committee meeting when staff will give a recommendation.
This Saturday, the Sicamous branch of the Okanagan Regional Library opens its doors to the public. The Eagle Valley Museum and Heritage Society moves in July 7.
