A Sicamous RCMP constable is to be honoured for keeping drunk drivers off the road.

Sgt. Murray McNeil said Const. Tom Gill is in line to be named to the 2017 Alexa’s Team, a program that recognizes RCMP and municipal police officers who have removed from the roads drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol.

“That’s for any member that gets more than 20 impaired drivers in the course of a year,” said McNeil while delivering the Sicamous RCMP detachment’s third quarter report to District of Sicamous council. “In the past year, he got 25 impaired drivers off the roads.”

Alexa’s Team is named after four-year old Alexa Middlear, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2008.

McNeil credited Gill for the increase in immediate road side suspensions issued by the detachment in the same quarter (October to December) last year from four to 14.
