A Sicamous business is in ruin following a structural fire that occurred Wednesday around midnight.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Sicamous firefighters received a report of a commercial fire at Extreme Power Sports along the Trans-Canada Highway.

Sicamous Fire Chief Brett Ogino says the fire was reported by tenants who had recently moved into a residential part of the building. They got out right away and are OK.

Approximately 32 firefighters, from the Sicamous, Malakwa and Swansea Point fire departments responded to the blaze. They were on the scene until about 7 a.m.

Ogino said the fire quickly burned through the roof of the cinder-block structure, and spread throughout the building.

The building and business are owned by Jason Stutzke.

Ogino has requested the investigation be done through the Office of the Fire Commissioner. Sicamous RCMP will assist if required.

The fire is believed to have started in a garage area in the rear of the building. The cause remains unknown, and the fire has not been deemed suspicious.

The News will provide an update as more information becomes available.
