WorkSafeBC has confirmed that an operator of a logging skidder machine died on Monday, Jan. 16 west of Revelstoke after he was run over by the vehicle he was operating.
The incident happened at a logging site adjacent to the '19 Mile' logging road that branches off of the Trans-Canada Highway west of Revelstoke.
WorkSafeBC communications officer Megan Johnston said that details are preliminary at this point, but confirmed the man died as a result of being run over by the skidder.
He was transported to hospital in Salmon Arm but died of his injuries, either while en route or soon after his arrival at the hospital. Responders originally called for an air ambulance and had planned to shut down the highway to allow it to land. However, they later decided to transport the victim to Salmon Arm by ambulance.
Although it hasn't been confirmed, the man is believed to be a resident of Sicamous.
Johnston said that WorkSafeBC is investigating the incident. Two investigators are on scene on Jan. 17, including a specialist from their fatal and serious injuries division.
