Stronger bonds are being created between a local First Nation and one of the region's most high-profile companies.
The Splatsin and Silver Star Mountain Resort have signed a memorandum of understanding.
"We've always had a great working relationship with our First Nations partners. It's way to continue that relationship and the respect we have," said Ken Derpak, Silver Star's managing director.
The agreement sets out the terms for communications and protecting cultural resources within the resort, while also focusing on potential economic development opportunities for the band and resort.
"This memorandum of understanding is an opportunity to work together," said Chief Wayne Christian.
Silver Star Mountain, or Tsuqqwtsin in the Secwepemctsin dialect, is of cultural significance to the Splatsin.
"Secwepemc people travelled to the mountain for various cultural activities that include hunting and medicine gathering," said Christian.
