A Sicamous man is facing criminal charges after a failed attempt to elude police officers responding to a report of an assault.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, April 21, Sicamous RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Sicamous. When police arrived they were told an assault had taken place and the suspect had since departed.
Police conducted patrols and located the individual a short distance away hiding in a shed. When the suspect was arrested, a physical altercation took place, and the suspect was able to escape custody.
With the assistance of Salmon Arm RCMP officers and a police service dog from Vernon, the suspect, Cameron James Fitzpatrick, was located at a service station in Sicamous. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Fitzpatrick was charged with assault, assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody and breach of recognizance. He remains in custody with his next court appearance set for May 24 in Salmon Arm Provincial Court.
