The BC Coroner's Service has released the name of the man killed in a vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Canoe on Jan. 2.

Richard Allen Davidson, 55, of Sicamous died as the result of injuries suffered in the crash.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said the fatality occurred just before midnight on Monday, Jan. 2, when Sicamous RCMP and RCMP traffic services responded to the report of a two-vehicle collision, as did the Salmon Arm Fire Department and Rescue Unit.

Upon arrival, officers learned a westbound pickup truck had collided with an eastbound commercial vehicle.

Moskaluk said the scene examination confirmed a Ford F-250 pickup truck had crossed double solid yellow lines and hit an eastbound tractor-trailer unit head-on.

“The 55-year-old male driver of the F-250 died on scene,” said Moskaluk. “Three other occupants from the pickup were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi is not believed to be injured.”

Moskaluk said the highway was closed for an extended period of time, with traffic re-directed around the collision scene via highways 97A and 97B.

RCMP East Trans-Canada Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.
