Alma Joan Hawes

December 17, 1949 - February 20, 2020
It is with much sadness and many tears that we announce the sudden passing of our mom, Alma. Our parents, Randy and Alma were life partners for 50 years and together, fought and were winning our mom's battle with ovarian cancer when an unforeseen complication took her from us.
As mother to Derek (Nikki), Darin (Laurel), and Darcie (Sean Downey), and grandmother to Dylan, Hayden, Jordyn, Nicholas, Brooklyn, Jake, Ben, Jaymee, and Tori, she always ensured we knew how special we were to her. She took immense pride in becoming a great grandmother when Jordyn gave birth to Sage B.
As kids we moved several times as our parents followed Dad's career in banking from Edmonton to Williams Lake, Whitehorse, Delta, and finally, Mission in 1979. Mom was always there supporting Dad throughout his 25 years in politics. She was a very fun loving and outgoing person who brought a ray of sunshine wherever she went. She especially loved family gatherings, vacations in Hawaii, and just chilling with our dad.
We are overwhelmed by the love and support from the many people who have reached out to us in this difficult time and thank everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and condolences. As a family, we are grieving together privately. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 2:00 pm at the Clarke Theatre in Mission. This will not be a sad ceremony as that was not Alma. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mission Hospital Auxiliary.
