Sep 16, 1936 - Dec 22, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kurt Schanz in Shuswap Lake General Hospital with his wife and eldest son at his side.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Roswita (Rosie) in 2015.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Edith and children Gary (Rose), Albin (Gloria), David (Tracey) and Dianna. He will be missed by his grandchildren Amanda, Kara, Andrew, Nadine, Alisha, Kurt and 6 great grandchildren.

Kurt was born in Gunzenhausen, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1957 shortly before his 21st birthday with wife Edith and infant son Gary. They spent the first two years working on a farm in Bruno, Saskatchewan before moving to Red Deer Alberta.

Shortly thereafter Kurt joined Canadian Armed Forces which moved the family to Calgary, Alberta where he was stationed for 10 years. Kurt brought the family to the Shuswap for vacations and loved it so much he along with a friend built two houseboats in 1966 for their families to enjoy the summers in Sicamous.

Over the next few years they build several more house boats and Galaxy Enterprises was formed. Kurt left the army in 1969 and moved the family to Sicamous to operate their houseboat company, which ran until the early 70's.

Kurt had many business ventures, building houses with his sons on Shuswap Lake from 1971-1978; Eagle Valley Towing, which he and son Gary operated from 1979 to 1992; Sicamous Used Cars Sales from 1985 to the mid 90's, and in recent years fiberglass repairs.

He continued to work right up until he was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago.

The family would like to thank Dr. Beech, we are very grateful for the care Kurt received.

A celebration of life will be held in April.
