EDWARD TED GEORGE PEDERSON

November 22, 2011

Pederson-Obit1

It is with sadness that the family of Ted announces his passing on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the age of 85 years.

Ted was born on a beach in Anstey Arm, BC on June 18, 1926 to parents Matt and Hazel Pederson, while waiting for the arrival of a doctor coming by boat from Salmon Arm. The family homesteaded at Humamilt Lake and Anstey Arm, but moved to Vancouver in the 1930s, following the death of Matt.

Ted enjoyed Vancouver and the lifelong friends he made there in his youth. He worked several jobs, including at the docks in Vancouver, a very brief stint at a salmon cannery, whistle punk and spark chaser for a logging crew as well as driving delivery trucks in the city. He met and married Millie, bought a $150 lot in North Vancouver and they built themselves a home. By 1964 Ted was determined to return to his beloved Shuswap and they moved to Sicamous to establish the Tomlyn Marina. Following this adventure, Ted went to work for Gordon Mackie as a Captain and storyteller for the Shuswap Lake Ferry Service, taking tourists, mail and other supplies up the lake to Seymour Arm. Ted’s lifelong love for the Shuswap never diminished, nor did his ability to tell wonderful stories about the colourful characters that he remembered from his days around the lake. Similarly, his passion for golf remained with him until the end of his life.

Millie passed away in 2004, but her and Ted are both lovingly remembered by children Tom (Ann) Pederson, Lynda (Mario) Gerlach, grandchildren; Cathy, Tammy, Michelle, Terry, and five great-grandchildren.

An informal gathering to celebrate Ted’s life will be held on Thursday, December 1st, 2011 at 1:30 pm at the Seniors Activity Centre in Sicamous.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Beech and the nurses at Shuswap Lake General Hospital for their excellent care of Ted.
