In memory ~
Frieda Tucker, age 73 of Sicamous B.C. passed away after battle with Cirrhosis of the liver August 9th 2022. She is survived by her partner Bill, her two sons Cody and Travis, her brother Melvyn, and 3 grandchildren Peyton, Maleah, and Rowen.
Frieda grew up near Maidstone Saskatchewan on a farm North of Waseca where she developed her strong personality and unwavering sense of independence. She resided in several locations after growing up on the farm, starting in Toronto where she attended hair dressing school in Vancouver, then Hudson Hope where she met her husband Bob Tucker (deceased) the father of her two boys.
The two of them moved to Revelstoke for the construction of the dam.
Frieda worked for a brief period as a construction site medic where she soon became restless not being involved in the work going on in front of her. Not long after the crew had her doubling as a blaster working in the tunnels through the Rogers Pass. Frieda prided herself on not being lazy and thrived in the high risk harsh conditions. Never complaining. Her husband Bob passed away in 1985 which prompted a fresh start and a move to Sicamous.
In Sicamous she made the switch from being a rock blaster away in camp, to a meter reader for BC Hydro. Recently widowed, this allowed her to be home for her boys. During this period she would always have a real estate project she would be renovating or flipping to supplement her income. She had no problems doing the hardest of work then coming home to garden, cook, landscape, and chase after her boys who were often in trouble, suspended, fighting or playing hockey and baseball in some far off town. She would always have a crazy story about being chased by pit bulls, or falling in a farmers cesspool and almost drowning trying to get to the hydro meters. After the boys were older she went back to construction, working 12hrs a day flagging or running a flagging crew.
Sicamous is where she met her life partner Bill Macaulay with whom they lived the snowbird life style for many years travelling throughout Mexico and the United States in their RV. They would return to Sicamous just in time to plant a garden and complain about weeding it and the lawn having to be cut. Summer times were spent on Bills houseboat exploring the lake, fishing and hanging out with friends.
Frieda lived for her boys and always put them in front of herself sacrificing so many luxuries just for them to have a chance to play hockey, and baseball, learn how to waterski, fish, camp, and garden. Nothing was more important than instilling a strong work ethic.
She loved rodeos, thunderstorms, playing baseball, curling, fishing, quality food and having friends over for patio BBQs. She made everyone laugh with her sometimes harsh comments, about "truck drivers", Albertans, Canada Post, and tourists.
Although Frieda has moved on, we find peace knowing that she is finally at rest without a care in the world, she's feeling as light as feather with a smile on her face, knowing that she did the best she could.
