Phil was born on June 10, 1962 in Jos, Nigeria, to parents Benjamin and Freda Strohschein. He was the eldest child and grew up in Chad, Africa with his sister and parents until he was 16. He graduated high school at Prairie in Three Hills, AB and began studying at Briercrest Bible College that fall. During his second year at Briercrest he met Brenda and by February they were engaged. Following college, Phil began apprenticing as an automotive mechanic. Phil and Brenda were married on August 4th, 1984.

Phil started his RCMP training in 1985, beginning a lifelong career throughout BC. In 1988, their daughter Nikki came into the world followed by their son Chad the following year. Phil loved his job and was proud to be part of the RCMP. In 2002, he was transferred to Sicamous where he retired in 2011.

Phil loved to drum, hang out with his dog Meeko, play X-box, go fishing and do building projects. Recently, he got into riding motorbike and has enjoyed trips whenever he could. Phil also loved to travel and spend time with his friends and family.

A celebration of Phil's life was held at Parkview Elementary School, Saturday, January 6th, 2018.
