Seniors centre soft surface a hazard

Snow removal in Sicamous. What price will the “cost saving” be in the end?

Attention District of Sicamous and whoever else was responsible:

I am referring specifically to the no-brainer that was created on the end of the Senior’s Centre parking lot.

My longtime demand for the unsightly weedy strip beside Gordon Mackie Way was that it be cleared and paved as an addition to the parking lot.

Instead, a promoter of recycled rubber got into the act with an allegedly lower cost. After the fact, it was disclosed that regular snowplowing could not be applied to it.

Now, a row of ugly Flintstones, Barney Rubble-era boulders have been dumped along the centre of this already useless strip. The issue allegedly was of safety for people using the sidewalk because of drivers going over the sidewalk in vehicles. It takes boulders of this size to stop a car? Again, my suggestion of a low, cement barrier fell on deaf ears.

Because of the positioning of the rocks dead centre, and that the rubber surface is untouchable with a snowplow, it means the parking lot will shrink even more.

Will the district bear the extra cost of trucking snow away, or will people be compelled to park in more hazardous places along the street?

Yes, snow is known to fall in Sicamous and that should have been considered before a questionable material was wasted on the strip.

What price will the “cost saving” be in the end?
