Snow Days fun continues with fundraiser

The Sicamous Snow Days spirit was uplifted on Friday when the sun gods smiled upon the work of the snow gods from the day before, and watched in amazement as nearly 200 Parkview Elementary students descended on the wintery fields of Finlayson Park. At the park you will see where each class set out to build snow shelters, castles big and small, snow fairy domes, household necessities like bathrooms, hot tubs and lounge chairs.

Standing guard over the snowy village are the wonderful snow people, with colourful scarves, hats, carrot-stick noses, bottle cap eyes and blue ice cube buttons.

The students were invited to return with family and friends to continue building between now and Saturday, Feb. 19, when a second Family Snow Play Day is planned for Finlayson Park from 12 to 3 p.m., in preparation for the evening Lantern Ski/Walk, light-up at 7 p.m., and the Hope for Haiti Fundraiser.

Before heading back to class, the children were treated to hot chocolate inside the recreation centre, where they also had an opportunity to view the Lion’s Park playground equipment choices and provide feedback. The club wants to put in a completely accessible playground and exercise equipment. It is hoped the whole community will work with the Lions Club to raise the required funds.

In that spirit, Eagle Valley Sports and Leisure is partnering with the rec centre to host a skate-a-thon fundaiser for the park on Friday, Feb.11, from 4 to 6 p.m. Pick up a pledge sheet at AJ’s and the Worx or call 250-515-1692. Skate rentals are available.
