They may be at opposite ends in the standings but there was little to it in Friday night’s game between the Chase Heat and the Sicamous Eagles.

The Doug Birks Division-leading Heat were still holding the top spot after their 2-1 win versus the Eagles at the Sicamous and District Recreation Centre on Dec. 8. That win, however, was earned in double overtime, and after a veritable barn burner of a game in which the home team showed they have the ability to go toe-to-toe with the best of them.

The first frame saw plenty of back-and-forth action but the score remained at double-doughnuts until the buzzer.

While the Heat started strong, the Eagles pulled ahead in the second. The stalemate persisted, however, until 1:52 when a hooking call on the Heat gave the Eagles the needed man-advantage to light up the board. The goal was scored by Justin Hodgson off Dallas Stewart and Sebastien Archambault.

The Eagles held on to their 1-0 lead until 15:05 of the final act, when Zachary Fournier turned a two-minute slashing call on Josh Olson into an equalizer.

The game stayed at 1-1 until the end of regulation play, and into double overtime where Kaden Black potted the win.

Sicamous goalie Zach Wickson was named the game’s second star after stopping 43 shots on net.
