The Sicamous Eagles couldn’t get a break last week, at home or on the road.

Play last week for the Sicamous boys began with a trip to Revelstoke, where the Eagles fell prey to the Grizzlies, 5-2.

Both teams came out strong and stayed that way throughout the game. Revelstoke was first on the board with a goal at 13:19 in the first period.

The Eagles outshot the Grizzlies 19 to 10 in the second, but were only able to find the back of the net twice, with unassisted goals by Alex Astasiewicz and Kade Holodniuk. The Grizzlies potted two in between, and the period ended 3-2 in their favour. The last frame could easily have gone either way but for a few minor penalty shots for the Eagles. Revelstoke used the man advantage to add two more goals and treat their home-ice fans to a win.

On Friday, Feb. 10, the Eagles were back at home to face off against the Kelowna Chiefs. The K-town boys, though ahead in the points race, had to fight just as hard as the Eagles for every goal in this contest. The Chief’s potted a power-play conversion at 1:41 in the first frame following a roughing penalty for the Eagles’ Ben Schoenfeld. Two minutes into the second period, the Chiefs added another goal. Minutes later, the Eagles’ Jace Woodley replied with a marker off Aaron Plessis and Cameron Graham. The Eagles added two more power-play goals around the half mark, with Tyler Collens scoring the first off Schoenfeld and Holodniuk, and the second, an unassisted marker scored by Jordan Bautista. The Chiefs had the last word in the period.

Going into the third frame at 3-3, Astasiewicz turned an early power play into a tie-breaker off Collens and Woodley. The Chiefs were on the offensive for the rest of the frame, battering Eagles goalie Josh Bolding with 20 shots on net. Two of those shots managed to get past Bolding, and the Chiefs would finish the period with a 5-4 win.

Sunday, Feb. 12, the Eagles took the long trip to 100 Mile House to rustle a win from the Wranglers. But the Shuswap visitors found themselves stampeded by the Cariboo crew to wind up on the losing end of a 12-1 tally. Wesley Howerton scored the single for the Eagles, a power-play goal, off Holodniuk.

The Eagles are in Chase on Friday, Feb. 17, to take on the Doug Birks Division-leading Chase Heat. They’re back home again Saturday, Feb. 18 to replay the Grizzlies. Game time is 7 p.m.
