Novice Sicamous Predators take Chase tournament

The Sicamous Novice Predators travelled to Chase on Saturday, Jan. 14 to do battle in the Chase Colts Novice Tournament.

The Predators’ first game was against the Kamloops Hawks. Sicamous came out skating hard and filled the Kamloops net early and often. The Predators came away with an 18-0 win, with Dylan Peter leading the scoring with four goals and two assists.

Jacob Dewitt scored three goals and was named game MVP, with other goals scored by: Scott Rokosh, Sidney Watson, Alex Dunnett and Colton Fleming scoring two each. Madison Dewitt, Daphne Miller and Daryan St. Louis added single goals ,and Noah Sutherland recorded the shutout in net.

The Predators’ second game was against Logan Lake, and once again the Preds started quick, building up a 5-0 lead in the first period. After Logan Lake scored two goals to make the score 5-2 after two periods, Sicamous came alive in the third period and scored eight more goals to win.

Sicamous goalie Noah Sutherland played a strong game and the offence was led by Madison Dewitt, with four goals and named game MVP. Also scoring for Sicamous was Jacob Dewitt – three goals, Korbin Forsyth and Dylan Peter with two goals and Colton Fleming and Alex Dunnett with one goal each. Final score: Sicamous 13, Logan Lake  2.

Game three pitted the undefeated Chase Colts against  Sicamous for the championship. Chase jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as Sicamous had a slow start – the effect of a long day of travelling and waiting to play. Korbin Forsyth and Dylan Peter scored late in the first period to bring Sicamous within one goal heading into the second period. Chase scored early in the second period to make the score 4-2, but then Sicamous goalie Noah Sutherland shut the door and didn’t allow another goal for the rest of the game.

Sicamous offence came alive, with Scott Rokosh, Dylan Peter and Jacob Dewitt scoring to give Sicamous a 5-4 lead going into the third period.

In the third period, Scott Rokosh, with his second goal, Jacob Dewitt with his second and Colton Fleming scored to complete the 8-4 win. Predator defenceman  Korbin Forsyth had a very strong game defensively and was named game MVP. Sicamous centre Scott Rokosh had a great game, scoring two goals and playing an awesome game defensively.

The entire Sicamous team played very well and hopes to carry on their fine play to next weekend, Jan. 20-21, when they host their own Novice Invitational Tournament. There will be  10  teams competing, with games starting Friday at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., and starting again on Saturday at 7 a.m .

The public is invited to come and cheer on the Sicamous Predators, who play at 5 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Teams will be coming from Merritt, Kelowna, Summerland, Westbank, Salmon Arm, Lumby and Revelstoke.
